CareNear.ca helps Canadian individuals and families research and compare retirement living options based on their loved one's needs, preferred location, budget, and care requirements.

Choosing a retirement home can be a difficult and overwhelming process. Our goal is to make that process easier by providing clear information, practical research, and resources so families can make more informed decisions.

Why CareNear exists

Many retirement home directories and "placement" services are paid by the homes they list, often through referral fees. That can make it hard to know whose interests are being served. CareNear.ca was built to be different: an independent resource for families.

How we research

The information on this site comes from publicly available sources, such as each home's own website and published materials and information from provincial regulators and government sources. We also contact homes directly, by phone and by email, to ask about pricing, availability, services, and levels of care.

• Costs are ranges, not quotes. Prices vary by suite, level of care, and time of year. Always confirm current pricing with the home.
• Licensing. Where a province regulates retirement homes, we check the regulator's public information when we add a listing. Licensing status can change, so please confirm it with the home or the regulator before deciding.
• Updates. Information about retirement homes changes. We review and update our guides as we learn of changes, and we welcome corrections.

What we do and don't do

• We do not receive referral fees or payments from retirement homes for placement, ranking, or recommendations.
• We do not send your inquiry to retirement homes on your behalf.
• We do not call families. If you reach out, we reply by email.
• We encourage families to visit and speak with homes directly and to confirm all details before making a decision.
